Dear Members and Friends of AIA|Los Angeles:
On Tuesday, March 23, The AIA|LA Board of Directors endorsed the following city wide initiatives:
- Los Angeles County Strategic Plan for Economic Development
- The 30/10 Plan
- The 4th Street Bicycle Boulevard
The time is NOW for our community to become actively engaged to build support for these initiatives and we encourage you to do so - below are summaries of AIA|LA's position on each issue and links to how you can get involved.
Los Angeles County Strategic Plan for Economic Development
AIA|LA supports the Los Angeles County Strategic Plan for Economic Development. Like LAEDC, AIA|LA is interested in advocating for civic leaders to "implement smart land-use" decisions and to "build twenty-first century infrastructure," in order to enhance the quality of life in LA County. We also support the goal of healthier living by building more parks, improving mobility and removing obstacles and creating incentives to encourage the construction of a wider range of housing types.
The 30/10 Plan
AIA|LA supports Mayor Villaraigosa's 30/10 Plan. Expediting 30 years of Measure R transit projects into 10 years is a positive step forward for the economy and the environment. It will ensure the ongoing economic competitiveness of the region as a whole, as we compete with other cities on a global stage to attract and retain businesses and people to live, work and recreate in our City. The plan will also create much needed jobs for the design and construction industry which will further the economic recovery of Los Angeles.
The 4th Street Bicycle Boulevard
AIA|LA supports the neighborhood consensus building initiative led by the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) to transform 4th Street from Hoover St. to Cochran St. into a bicycle boulevard. The street-scape improvements realized by transforming 4th Street will also create the potential for additional public benefits such as pocket parks, green parkways, storm water infiltration and more canopy trees. AIA|LA agrees with LACBC that the atmosphere created by bicycle boulevards will benefit cyclist, pedestrians and neighbors alike.
