The AIA-LA Interior Architecture Committee- (AIA-LA-IAC) hosts a 1 day student design Charette annually.

Two students are invited from the Interior Architecture, Environmental Design and Architure Departments from Colleges and Universities located in the Southern California area.  Prizes total $23,000 for 1st through 3rd place.

The students have 6 hours from start to finish to incorporate their design on to (2) 32x40” presentation boards, using only the manual tools of the trade to complete their effort.  The students arrive with boxes of trace, magazines, tape, colored paper and all the pencils, markers and straight rules of yesterday.   At the end of the 6 hours the teams are then silently juried, from 14 teams, 6 finalists, emerged.  The finalist then have 30 minutes to prepare a verbal presentation to support their visual. After a 5 minute oral presentations, the jury, behind closed doors, determines the 3 winners.
